2018 Prix De L’Arc de Triomphe

2018 sees The Arc return to it’s beloved home of Longchamp and ENABLE will be bidding to win the race for the second time on the trot. John Gosden’s filly is absolutely top class and although being off for some time with injury, returned to land a Group 3 at Kempton and looks sure to have been prepared for this target.

One of tha most valuable races in the calendar with winning connections netting just over 3,000,000 Euros. It always means a huge high class field and this year is no exception.

Before we get into the racing, lets just take a look at a little bit of history of this great race.

History of the Prix De L’Arc de Triomphe

The first running of the famous Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe took place on Sunday 3 October 1920 and it has been a regular occurance on the first or second Sunday of October ever since. The first running was won by Comrade, a three-year-old colt owned by Evremond de Saint-Alary.

The “Arc” was cancelled twice during World War II, in 1939 and 1940 and was run at Le Tremblay in the years 1943 and 1944.

The present sponsor of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe is the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) and they have invested heavily (Prize fund of over €5 000 000 which makes it the richest flat race on turf.

Due to renovations at the Hippodrome de Longchamp the 2016 and 2017 edition of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe took place in Chantilly, but 2018 see’s it return to it’s rightful home.

Longchamp Betting Selections and Analysis

So today’s two big races are “The Arc” and “The L’Abbeye” and we have an EW selection in each race.

Prix De L’Arc de Triomphe

The main event looks sure to go to Enable and she will be a very difficult horse to beat, but looking at the betting, our EW selection has to be a value bet on KEW GARDENS at 10/1 EW with Skybet who are paying 5 places.

Prix De L’Abbeye

Battash has been very in and out this season and although this horse could win easily, there are definite concerns that the horse may boil over in this pressure cooker environment. Therefore our value EW selection is the Ballydoyle trained LOST TREASURE at 100/1 EW with Paddy Power who are paying 4 places.

Enjoy Sundays feast of racing
