How to Follow Betting Tips

2 April 2019

If you type “Betting Tips” into your internet search engine you will find hundreds of sites who off betting tips and advice, but there are a lot who use amateur tipsters to give their opinions.

However, there are some who are genuine professional tipsters and their advice should be followed if you want to become successful at sports betting. If nothing else, they will help you to not your entire bankroll on a hunch.

What is a Betting Tipster?

A betting tipster is a professional who has gained extensive knowledge of a particular sport or sports and offers tips using statistics and analytical thinking. Sometimes, a tipster will have inside information about a sport that the public isn’t able to access but, more often than not, tips will be provided using knowledge and experienced gained.

Anyone can offer a tip on a certain outcome of a sporting event but a professional tipster will look to provide tips which can give the punter a long-term profit and help people to manage their bankroll.

How are Tips Provided?

Most UK newspapers will have a tipster employed to offer their experience and knowledge of horse racing, with tips for each race or a NAP of the day being given. There are also several websites who offer tips on a daily basis for a wide range of different sports.

Generally, free tips are either going to be given as a taster of what a particular tipster offers or these are tips offered by less experienced and perhaps less knowledgable tipsters. Most professional tipsters will charge a fee for their tips, because they are essentially a business providing a service.

A lot of tipsters will give a tip followed by a number of points instead of a cash value. For example, they would give a certain horse to win a race and their stake would be 5 points.

The points system may be difficult to understand for people new to betting tipsters but it’s pretty simple really. The points, pts, or pt system is in place to ensure punters do not lose their entire bankroll in one go and ensures a long term profit.

Other tipsters, usually specific to a certain country, may give cash values as a stake but tend to stick to the same stake for every bet.

The Points Tipping System

As mentioned above, tipsters use a points system when offering tips as a way of ensuring they do not use all of their bankroll in one go and gives a better chance of a long term profit.

The way this works is that they will split their total bankroll, regardless of the amount, into 100 points with one point being the equivalent of 1% of the total bankroll.

So, if your total bankroll is 100, each point would be worth 1. If the bankroll is 1000, each point is worth 10. This is the same for bankrolls of any size.

To work out the value of each point for your bankroll, you can use a simple mathematical process of:

• Total bankroll / 100 = value of 1 point

Which, with a bankroll of 1000 would be:

• 1000 / 100 = 10

This is a brilliant way of ensuring your bankroll is spread out over several bets.

When following a tipster, you should stick to the advice given at all times. The advice isn’t just there to try and win you a single bet, it’s there to try and prevent you going bust from one bet and to help you make a long term profit.

If the tipster provides a tip and recommends a 5pt stake, you should only place that bet with a 5pt stake. So, with a bankroll of 1000, a 5pt stake would be 50.
