How to Bet on the Premier League

2 April 2019

With football being possibly the most popular sport in the world with regards sports betting, it’s only natural that the biggest league in English football is among the most popular competitions that people bet on.

The Premier League

The Premier League is the highest level of the English football league system, contested by twenty teams every season.

Formed in 1992 after a breakaway from the football league, the Premier League has grown immensely since that first season with TV rights, some of the most famous players in the world, and teams who have become global businesses.

With the top teams gaining qualification to European club competitions and the bottom teams facing relegation to the football league, with three clubs in the division below taking their place, every single match is important and the league attracts millions of fans at matches and via TV every single week.

How to Bet on the Premier League

Because of the growth and popularity of the league as a whole, it’s no surprise to know that betting on the Premier League has also increased and so has the number of markets sports betting companies offer on it on a daily basis.

Anyone over the legal age requirements can place a bet on the Premier League as long as they have an active online betting account or visit a bookmakers to do so.

Betting on the Premier League is as simple as betting on any other sport or competition but provides punters with several different market options. This means that people wanting to place a bet do not have to stick to the regular betting markets and can place wagers which last an entire season.

It is best to take an analytical approach to sports betting as this is especially the case with betting on the Premier League. If the team you support plays in the Premier League you may be tempted to lump big sums of money on them but that is emotional betting and is not recommended.

Instead, study statistics and make an informed decision on who to place a bet on.

Betting on the Premier League Winner

Hugely popular at the start of the season is betting on the outright Premier League winner. Usually, this will be one of a few of the big teams who compete at the top of the table and the betting odds for these teams will reflect this. At the start of the 2018/19 season, Manchester City were 8/13 favourites and Liverpool were priced at 4/1. It’s no surprise to know that as the season end approaches, they are the two teams battling it out in the top two positions.

However, occasionally, a shock happens like when Leicester City won the Premier League title in 2015/16 despite pre-season odds of 5,000/1.

Despite this, when betting on the Premier League winner, it’s usually best to stick to the top few teams and also take advantage of each way betting.
