The Tote has been synonymous with racing since it was established and founded by Winston Churchill way back in 1927 as a horse racing pool betting provider. The Tote became most famous for its racecourse operations but expanded to offer betting in shops, on the telephone, on the internet and via mobile.

The website brings together the best of tote and sports betting in one place and you can see a lot of investment has gone into making the site as user freindly as possible for punters.

The totesport website is still very much racing centric and offers punters some fabulous incentives. As an example they pay out 5 x the price for a single winner on Heinz or Lucky 63 bets and even pay out 3 x the price on Lucky 15’a when the industry standard is double.

We like teh colour scheme of the site with lime green navigation over a black or iron grey background colour. It seems a non important thing but it makes navigating around the site very intuitive.

Betting limits

The maximum winnings payable to any Player for a single days betting on any single or combination of bets is a maximum of £1,000,000 depending on which sport you are betting on.

Horse Racing – £1,000,000 – where all selections are for horse racing in the U.K. or Ireland, and covered by a full service (betting shows, offs, and results broadcast by S.I.S. and displayed on the totesport website).

Football – £1,000,000 – For all main European Leagues (English Premiership, Championship, League 1 and League 2, Scottish Premier League, Champions League, La Liga Primera, Serie A, Bundesliga 1 and Le Championnat Premiere), FA Cup, English League Cup and International Matches and Competitions.

In-play experience

The Totesport live offer includes in-play, fast markets and various types of handicap bets but whereas their sports betting interface is really well laid out, the same cannot be said for the live betting interface with lime green on a white background and very small text making it very tricky to read.

Live streaming

Totesport does not currently supply live streaming of events.

The Totesport website has had a complete makeover since we last reviewd it and has a much more user friendly landing page once you reach the site.

The colour scheme still uses a dark grey and lime green colour (in line with branding), but the main page now has a very bright section in the middle of the page and it features 3 tabs: In play, Next 5 and Highlights.

The way the events are laid out in this section is really easy on the eye, and accessing your favorite sport is nice and easy from the main left side menu.

Many sites use a very busy right sidebar to add in the bet slip, some more odds and other promotional elements. The Totesport site does not do this. All it has is three tabs; Bet Slip, Open Bets and Cash Out.

This new look has been designed to make it really easy for the user to place bets and see exactly what they want.

The main navigation is really user freindly with a horizontal menu containing the major products that they offer: Sports, Totepool, In Play, Games & Lotto.

Great job by Totesport to make this much more user friendly.

Totesport are very much a bookmaker focused on horse racing, and it is here where you will find some of the best odds online for horse racing.

Behind Horse Racing, then Football is a sport where they give players a real advantage with their average margin being just 3%, this is one of the best we have found on mainstream bookmakers.

Tennis is totally different and they have one of the worst margins for punters with a 6.6% rake form tennis betting.

Their overall betting margin across all sports comes out at 4.7% which is competitive, but it definitely is a site for horse racing punters.

When we look at other sports outside of horse racing it is clear that football comes a very close second.

They currently offer betting on various leagues worldwide, including youth, womens and international matches, but one of the unique betting options they have on Totesport is something called ‘Pick Your Punt” which is a wide range of bets available on many elements during a game.

Just as an example in a recent game in the Championship. They were offering odds on Norwich vs Sheffield Wednesday and some of the bets you could have included:

This was just a small selection, so for favorite backers this is a really attractive option to build out short priced multiple bets across a selection of games.

The In-play interface takes the same colour scheme as the main site and the layout is very simple. Football is the main In-play sport and the way this is laid out makes a lot of sense.

You will always find the major UK games listed at the very top with Premier League followed by any English cup games followed by the major Scottish football. After this it is the major European leagues from Spain, Italy, Germany and France.

After these main leagues you will find all other leagues from world-wide.

The interface is clean and simple, the only slight negative is the size of the text in each section. A couple of nice small touches are that any games that are on live TV are shown with the relevant channel icon next to the match title, this makes it easy to see which games you can enjoy on TV.

Also to the right of the live interface you have links to live commentaries which adds another nice piece of quality content for the user.

Totesport offer a very wide range of markets with their football and tennis offers very strong. Just general football events will have a standard of 120+ markets but when you add in “Pick Your Punt” that swells to over 300.
