Will Romelu Lukaku be a success next season at Man United?

3 January 2019

Man United fans have been through a transition across the last few years. Since Ferguson stepped out of the cockpit, it has been a turbulent flight for Man United. For the fans, many yards have been cut off their pride with each passing season that the Premiership title has refused to come back to Old Trafford.

The fans wouldn’t want to remember the days of David Moyes nor the days of Van Gaal. Van Gaal’s days were congested with boring soccer. Soccer so boring that the accumulated yawns of bored Man United fans could form a violent typhoon. Now, Mourinho, the ex-Special One has been brought on board to steady the ship and return Man United to the glorious table where they were fed gluttonously with trophies.

The first season wasn’t too bad, at least the Champions league theme song will be sung in Old Trafford once again. The Europa, the League Cup were sizable successes, but Man United were starved of goals. Yes, the goals were not raining in, they were drizzling in which was far too low. The giant Ibrahimovic took a major chunk of the goal scoring responsibilities on his experienced shoulders. But he never had good secretaries in Anthony Martial and Rashford to delegate goalscoring duties to. If a good volume of goals had been shipped in, Man United would have confidently been in contention for the premier league title.

With the season-ending injury of Ibrahimovic, it became a necessity for ManUnited to reinforce their armory with more attacking firepower. Someone who can bring in the goals that Man United salivated last season. After an extended transfer tussle with Real Madrid over Morata, Man United made a quick overture snatching Romelu Lukaku from the jaws of Antonio Conte and Chelsea. For a hefty price of £75m, a crowd of eyeballs will be hovering over Lukaku, seeing if he is going to justify the seemingly ludicrous investment. The question is: will Romelu Lukaku be a success for Man United next season, will he bring in the goals- the important goals?

Well, while trying to sound as pragmatic as possible, it is safe to say Lukaku knows his premiership onions. He has been in the top flight for a while and seems to know the technical configuration of Premiership soccer. With Everton, he delivered the goals. Last season, he was only surpassed by the enigmatic Harry Kane for Tottenham. He has delivered in a way. What remains to be seen is if he can deliver on the big stage with Man United especially in the Champions league scoring important goals. The pressure on him could sink the Eiffel Tower. As ManUnited’s second most expensive player, he is now going to understand Tupac’s All Eyez on Me.

Lukaku is already 9/2 shot with bookmakers Boyle Sports to take the golden boot away from Tottenham’s Harry Kane.

Lukaku odds of being top scorer is 4 with Bet365 as well as 4 with Bwin and even 4 with Betfair

There is the high possibility that Lukaku would deliver the needed goals. He has bigger brains behind him than he had in Everton. A Man United midfield nourished with Pogba, Herrera will make sure he is sumptuously fed with mouthfuls of goalscoring opportunities. He is even going to adapt more easily into Man United. He already has one of his best friends there in Paul Pogba. Mourinho believes in him now hence he approved of WoodWard to unzip the wallet and give Everton £75 million + Rooney. However, much remains to be seen and the new season is one Lukaku will be answering many questions.
