Liverpool are having a nightmare start to the campaign and travel to Scotland on the back of a damaging 3-2 defeat at Arsenal. However, they won the reverse fixtures 2-0 but were comprehensively beaten 4-1 by Napoli in their Champions League opener after being completely outplayed by their Italian opponents in Naples, but they recovered to beat Ajax 2-1 at Anfield with Joel Matip’s late goal, and won 2-0 at Anfield against their Wednesday’s opponent.

Liverpool have only recorded two victories in their last six games in all competitions, beating Ajax and Rangers. However, they drew twice in the Premier League against Everton and Brighton, and lost 3-2 against high-flying Arsenal. Liverpool’s flaws were highlighted as they fell behind 2-0 against Brighton and then were then pegged back after coming back from behind to take the lead. Against Arsenal, they conceded in the opening minute and despite leveling twice, lost to a late Bukayo Saka penalty to leave Jurgen Klopp’s side tenth in the table.

Rangers have had a better start in the Scottish Premiership, but their form in the Champions League has been a nightmare. Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side sit second in the league standings, three points behind Celtic, losing only one game all so far; a devastating 4-0 loss against Celtic.

Just a few days after losing to Celtic, Rangers suffered 4-0 defeats at the hands of Ajax and Napoli respectively, and then lost 2-0 to Liverpool at Anfield, keeping them glued to the bottom of Group A after three games. This game is a must win for Rangers if they are to stand any chance of earning a place in the Europa League.
