Will Alexander Lacazette be a BIG hit for Arsenal next season?

2 January 2019

Arsenal fans this week wouldn’t mind taking a mug of beer to church, it is celebration galore for them. The club has finally landed a world class forward in the mould of the French destroyer Alexandre Lacazette. This is a welcome distraction for Arsenal fans who have their hands sorrowfully stapled to their chin watching the protracted Sanchez contract saga. Alexandre has been finally brought Lacazette aboard the Emirates ship for a deal running into €53 million.

Truth is Arsenal have so long been malnourished of a top class striker except the makeshift Sanchez. Arsenal need that striker who is regularly giving the opposition goalkeeper a nuclear feel of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, one who scores three goals from two chances! There has been moments in seasons past, where the Arsenal attack turned up a complete wreck, where the opposition goal keeper could have spread a mattress in his goal post in course of the match for a deep nap since the Arsenal attack never disturbed. Now Ozil can be sure he has now a fellow notorious accomplice who can corroborate his big eyeball vision with goals.

Over 15.5 – 10/11

Under 15.5 – 10/11

It is a not a regular thing that Arsene Wenger loathed by some Arsenal fans for his frugality, could part with a humongous €53 million for one player. Wenger is famously a French economist who would love to buy the latest Bentley for $10! The question now is if Lacazette at that price tag is good business? Can Arsenal fans wash their cutlery ahead of next season relishing a sumptuous meal of goals? There are fears if he would end up a Liverpool Andy Carrol. The premier league is no joke of a league, boasting the fiercest, well drilled and tactically apt defences. Ask Tottenham’s flop Vincent Janssen how tough premiership defenders are, he would wrap a brotherly arm around your shoulder and heave “O boy!!!”

Having not yet cast his foot on English turf as a premiership player, Lacazette is still a rainbow for fans arsenal. A promise that the floods of nonchalance Giroud and Walcot have been washing Arsenal with (in front of the post) is over. Averaging 30 goals across the last three seasons, Lacazette knows his onions as a striker. He is proven in another form. While the French league may not be at par with the fast and furious English Premiere league where players run with three legs, there has been successful transplant of French talents from the Ligue 1 to the English Premiership. Eden Hazard from Lille, Didier Drogba from Marseille and lately Ibrahimovic from PSG. All have blossomed flourishingly in the premier league so why will Lacazette be the wild card?

Harry Kane – 11/4

Romelu Lukaku – 8/2

Diego Costa – 11/2

Segio Aguero – 6/1

Alexander Lacazette – 8/1

Lacazette is a good dribbler, a strong nose for goal with both feet. Premiership league goalkeepers will now need to wear two hand-gloves on one hand as they will be having enough on their desk when they meet Arsenal. While we cannot be confidently definitive, we can still say Arsenal has put a lot of their goal scoring woes behind them in this purchase! All together, the acquisition of Lacazette is a strong statement from Arsenal that they are going back to their ancestral home of Champions league soccer. Who knows Arsene Wenger may finally carry his long lost baby: The Premier league trophy!
