From seemingly nowhere, Arsenal got back into the race to finish in the Top4, thanks to three straight wins. A comfortable 2-0 win over Manchester United , and two home wins against Southampton and Stoke, scoring six goals in last two games.
However, it could all be in vain if Liverpool win at Middlesbrough on the final day of the season and Manchester City get four points from their remaining two games, Arsenal will be without Champions League for the first time in over a decade.
The ‘gunners’ also have to do their job and, of course, get the maximum points this week. Two home games against two clubs – and one of them is Sunderland – who have absolutely no motivation to play as the team has been already relegated.
Sunderland has lost all six of their home games against the top eight. Jason Denayer and Victor Anichebe are important doubts about the team that started against Swansea. Tight midfielder Lee Cattermole is close to a comeback after an Achilles injury, but the Emirates game could come too soon.
At Monday’s press conference Moyes mentioned more players who are unavailable (though he did not mention names) and hinted that he might even use ‘some juveniles’ to deal with Arsenal.
